We who preach and write, do so in a manner different from which the Scriptures have been written. We write while we make progress. We learn something new every day. We speak as we still knock for understanding...If anyone criticizes me when I have said what is right, he does me an injustice. But I would be more angry with the one who praises me and takes what I have written for Gospel truth than I would be with the one who criticizes me unfairly. -Augustine

Grace Abounding

A few days ago I heard a staff member from John Piper’s ministry quote 2nd Corinthians 9:8 at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention. I don’t know how to explain it, but for all of those who were with me experienced the same phenomenon. It was as if the Words leaped from the page and overcame us. I really can’t explain in words what the experience was like, but everyone who was there is still talking about it. Simply, the speaker, Matt, was talking about giving away what God has given us. For me as the president of Lamplighter, that would mean giving away all of our drama productions and books. According to the verse that you are about to read, God would then in turn continue to provide for us, so that we could continue to with our work. There is much more that needs to be discussed but in essence, God loves a cheerful giver and those who give it all away will be blessed in ways they cannot imagine. This line of thinking is highly controversial and is in no way clear cut. But the thought is worthy of discussion. What is interesting is that two weeks before I heard his message, I ha decided that we would give away our most expensive audio drama because of the powerful evangelistic message that it contains -http://www.lamplighterpublishing.com/pastors.asp enough blah blah blah…here’s the verse: “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency, in all things, at all times, you may abound in every good work. If you read it over and over again you will begin to see the significance. God is able first of all! Next, he is able to make all grace abound toward us. Not just some grace, but all of it! Next, the purpose for this grace is to help us be completely sufficient in the work he has called us to. Whether as a mom, a pastor, or a president, God is able to give us the enabling grace for every imaginable need, at any time, regardless of the “times”, IN ORDER THAT, WE MAY ABOUND IN EVERY GOOD WORK! That’s a pretty amazing promise.
